Cargo Literary

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Currently Cargo Literary is closed for submissions. Please check back in September 2019.

Guidelines for Prose/Poetry

Cargo is a nonfiction journal, and we are looking for pieces with a strong narrative and interior journey, such as immersion reportage, memoir, and personal essay.  Please submit one essay (up to 4,000 words) or up to five poems.  We will consider prose poems, lists, and interesting personal notes providing they meet our guidelines, so feel free to take risks with form. We would also like to publish author interviews.

We are also accepting reviews, which might be a book review or an investigation into the history behind a muralled wall in Puerto Rico. Be creative. We're also interested in collaborations between writers and visual artists, and are looking for submissions from across our beautiful blue planet. Cargo will also consider your translations of poetry or prose.

Cargo can only accept previously unpublished work, and this include blog posts.  If you have an idea for a column or serial, please contact us at cargolitmag@gmail.com. Don't forget to send an outline and a work sample for us to review.

We ask that writers supply bios + head shots if selected for publication. You are also free to send accompanying photography for your essay or poem.  Please note that up to ten files are permitted.

Authors maintain rights over all their work published in Cargo.

Guidelines for Photography

Cargo is looking for photo essays  (in 5-7 photos or more), but photos sent solo can be posted as blog posts in Cargo's "Photo of the Day". We are looking for captivating photos that convey an emotional intimacy. Please send us your full resolution photographs (1200 pixels or larger) and they will be used as sent. They will not altered by us in any way.

Your photos will be given credit to you, the photographer, each time the photo is used on the web or in social media. Certain images may need to be cropped to allow for web limitations, and text may be added on top if chosen for a cover issue.

Please send titles and statements with your photos in doc or docx formats. For photos, *jpegs only please*. Please note that up to ten files are permitted.

Guidelines for Visual Art

Cargo is interested in publishing your art as digital imagery. If you are an artist, forward us your digital art accompanied by an artist statement and a description of concept. This could include an introduction to the piece, why you made it, or its significance to you.

Don't forget to send us your bio, head shot, and website. All of your work will link back to you.

Please submit by emailing cargolitmag@gmail.com or by using the Submittable form below.

Thanks for your interest in Cargo Literary.
